New Base Year for India’s GDP and IIP
The Government of India has proposed a new base year of 2022-23 for GDP and the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), replacing the earlier base year of 2011-12. The purpose of changing the base year is to more accurately reflect the current structure of the economy and production patterns. This change has been carried out by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI). Once the new base year is implemented, GDP figures can be calculated more accurately.

New Ramsar Sites Announced in February 2026
In February 2026, two new wetlands in India were given the status of Ramsar Site. The first is the Patna Bird Sanctuary located in Etah district of Uttar Pradesh, which has become the state’s 11th Ramsar site. The second is the Chhari Dhand Wetland located in Kutch, Gujarat, situated near the Banni grasslands.
