Negative Marking Strategy — How to Handle –0.25
With –0.25 per wrong answer, you lose 1 mark for every 4 wrong answers. Here is the optimal approach:
- Attempt questions you are 70%+ confident about. Skip anything you are guessing randomly.
- Target 80 correct answers with a maximum of 12 wrong — this gives approximately 80 – 3 = 77 marks, well above the typical cutoff.
- Reasoning and Maths first: These have definite right/wrong answers. Do them first while your mind is fresh.
- Current Affairs last: If time permits, attempt GK questions where you have partial knowledge.
- Never leave more than 15 questions unattempted in Reasoning — these are the highest accuracy section for most candidates.
