The Preliminary Examination is an objective-type screening test consisting of two papers: General Studies (100 marks) and CSAT (100 marks, qualifying in nature). Candidates who clear the Preliminary stage appear for the Mains Examination, which is a descriptive test covering six papers. The final stage is the Personality Test or Interview carrying 75 marks. The final merit list is prepared by adding the Mains and Interview scores.
