Republic Day 2026: Chief Guests, Theme & Tableaux

The 2026 Republic Day theme was “150 Years of Vande Mataram,” marking 150 years since Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay composed the song in his novel “Anandmath.” Two chief guests attended this year — Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and António Costa, President of the European Council. A total of 30 tableaux rolled down Kartavya Path: 17 from states/UTs and 13 from central ministries, departments, and services.

Simran Bala: First Woman to Lead an All-Male CRPF Contingent

Praveen Vashishtha Appointed Vigilance Commissioner, CVC

Uttarakhand implemented its Uniform Civil Code Ordinance 2026, amending the 2024 UCC Act, with the Governor’s approval, becoming the first Indian state to implement a Uniform Civil Code through a specific Act since Independence (Goa had a form of it from before Independence). UCC applies uniform personal laws on marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships to all residents except Scheduled Tribes.
