General Intelligence and Reasoning Syllabus
Reasoning in SSC GD is at a basic level, testing logical and analytical thinking. Topics covered: analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualisation, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discriminating observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement and conclusion, blood relations, directions and distances, Venn diagrams, and basic syllogism. Most questions in this section can be solved with basic training in about 4 to 6 weeks.
General Knowledge and Awareness Syllabus
GK section covers current events (national and international from the last 6 months), India and its neighbours, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general polity, Indian Constitution, scientific research, sports, games, books and authors, important awards and honours, and famous personalities. Focus on the last 6 months of current affairs and standard static GK at the Class 10 level.
Elementary Mathematics Syllabus
Maths for SSC GD is at the Class 8 to 10 level. Many candidates underestimate the breadth of the GK section and focus too heavily on Reasoning and Maths. However, GK is the most differentiated section — it cannot be mastered by formula memorisation and requires consistent current affairs study. Start reading a daily English/Hindi newspaper from Day 1 of preparation, even if your exam is 3 to 4 months away. Supplement with a monthly current affairs PDF from a trusted source.
For the Reasoning section, solving 50 to 80 practice questions per day for 4 to 6 weeks is sufficient to achieve near-perfect accuracy. The question difficulty in SSC GD Reasoning is significantly lower than SSC CGL or SSC CHSL Tier-I. Focus especially on analogies, coding-decoding, number series, blood relations, and direction sense — these account for approximately 60 percent of Reasoning questions.
For Elementary Mathematics, use the NCERT Class 8 and 9 textbooks as a base. The questions test Percentages, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio and Proportion, Time and Work, and Time and Distance. Data interpretation (bar graphs, pie charts, tables) may appear in 2 to 3 questions.
