The Union Cabinet has approved the PM Surya Sarovar Yojana, aimed at promoting floating solar power projects on reservoirs and other water bodies across India. The scheme has been cleared for five years, up to FY 2030-31, with a target of adding 5,000 MW of floating solar capacity.

Supreme Court Mandates 10 km Buffer Zone Around Wetland Reserves

The Supreme Court has directed that a 10 km buffer zone be mandatory around all wetland conservation reserves in India, extending a rule that earlier applied only to Uttarakhand’s Asan Conservation Reserve. Within this zone, mining or major human activity now needs clearance from the National Board of Wildlife and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
